Nikolay and Yaroslav were far behind their rivals from the very first kilometers of the distance. It was caused by slippery and dirty road conditions on the one hand and improper transmission settings, chosen on tests during preparation before the German stage on the other.

Attempts to improve the situation by adjusting the settings were unsuccessful, and Nikolay had to survive, adapting to the behavior of the car. Moreover, the crew get the puncture and lost about two minutes on SS3, going down from 6th to 12th place in WRC 2.

On Saturday, Nikolay and Yaroslav returned to their original settings and continued the race. The Russian crew won six places back during the day – mostly due to their rivals' problems and retirements. Despite the issues with the disconnector on the SS10, Nikolay and Yaroslav made it to the sixth place in WRC 2 by the middle of the day. But then, on the first drive of the 41-km Panzerplatte stage, they lost about two minutes due to the second puncture.

The final day was marked by the fight with Simone Tempestini for the fifth position. The opponent was faster in the morning loop, and our guys really couldn't compete with him on the second run: Fabio Andolfi's crash on SS18 led to the cancellation of the special stage. Neither Gryazin nor Tempestini started at this special stage, and the organizers assigned them notional time, according to SS16 results. As a result, Simone was ahead of our crew, without even driving the stage.

"Despite all problems, this rally has become an invaluable contribution to our experience, which, we hope, will do more for us in the future. We are happy that we were able to drive the entire distance and attack at the final stage, adapting to the behavior of the car. This rally turned out to be a lot more complicated than we expected.

By the way, we found out that we were fifth only after the finish. We have been told that the organizers assigned the competitors different time for the canceled special stage just then. We don't consider this decision to be quite correct, but we are really simply glad that we finished and it doesn't matter what position on – the fifth or the fourth.
