Two years ago Nikolay and Yaroslav managed to secure a confident victory by winning all special stages, but this time the rivals put up serious resistance. Russian crew became the fastest in ten of the thirteen special stages during the two days of the Slovenian race. The Russians crossed a finish line more than a minute ahead of Boštjan Avbelj who finished second.

This success was the second for Gryazin in Nova Gorica and the first at the wheel of the Polo GTI R5.

"We are delighted with this rally. This year, the weather in Nova Gorica was beautiful, so we used hard tires. We really liked the VW Polo GTI R5 behavior on asphalt, and we definitely got acquainted with this car very well.

Great help with the car was given to us by a VW Motorsport engineer, who worked before with top-class rally drivers, such as Petter Solberg and Sebastien Ogier. He greatly assisted us in getting comfortable with the Polo GTI R5. Interaction with him has become an unusual experience for us: he calculates solutions using formulas, instead of watching onboards.

During the rally, I shared my feelings with him, and he immediately suggested some ideas, made significant changes in the settings, and, in general, gave a lot of advice on the driving part. I decided that in the race we'll be working with driving without changing the settings radically – especially since I like the way the car behaved. So we've got an exciting experience.

The rivals who did not let us relax were a welcome surprise: to get ahead of them, and we had to go really fast. Such pressure always encourages towards speeding up.

Many thanks to the BMA team for the well-prepared car, thanks to the organizers for the invitation to the rally, and, of course, thanks to the fans who supported us throughout the race. I hope to return to Nova Gorica more than once in the future."
