NIKOLAY GRYAZIN TAKES SECOND PLACE AT LÕUNA-EESTI RALLI
The Hyundai Motorsport N driver had his final practice before returning to the World Rally Championship.

Last weekend, Lõuna-Eesti Ralli became a rehearsal of a sort for its participants as they were preparing for the second part of the WRC season. The Russian crew of Nikolay Gryazin and Konstantin Aleksandrov also took their chance to practise before Rally Estonia.

The rally organizers were forced to alter the format of the gravel event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The rally took just one day – Sunday, while its route was cut to 101.50km. Nikolay's goal was to practise, to cover the entire distance, to compete against their rivals driving R5 cars, and to try out various car settings.

The Russian crew began to fight for victory from the very start. They were third in the EMV2 category after the first stage. Nikolay began pushing in the second loop; he won both stages, and headed the rally.

In the next section, the 22-year-old driver kept on fighting for his victory. He lost the lead on SS5, but grabbed it back after winning the next stage. Two stages before the finish line, he was 4.9s ahead of his nearest rival. But he was unable to maintain his advantage, and had to settle for second place.

"Our participation in Lõuna-Eesti Ralli was a great opportunity to practise before WRC Rally Estonia. I really liked this event. Several years ago I got to drive these roads with an R2, but this time it seemed as if the stages had become faster – I'd say, they felt like a toughened version of the last year's Rally Estonia.

We really enjoyed the rally, and I was stoked to take part in such a hard fight for victory although it's obviously a shame we didn't win it. At any rate, we fulfilled our mission in terms of preparing for the next event, and working on our car's settings.

Most importantly, we were all pleased and happy. There's room for improvement at the next tests. Big thanks to Hyundai Motorsport for their support, to the RedGrey team for preparing my car, to my co-driver, and to everyone who cheered for us last weekend."
